I think it is to hot for mosquitos here right now. We have been averaging around 106-108 with the heat index being up to 115 degrees. I don't know what people did when there wasn't airconditioning. It is horrible.
I actually used some original Listerine on my patio because there were just way too many skeeters out there and it worked!! The next day there wasn't a skeeter to be seen.
I heard that you can put listerene(or generic) in a spray bottle and spray the area you want with it and the mosquitos won't come around. Skin so Soft original works well also, put it in a spray bottle also and spray your exposed skin with it.
Monday here was 110 degrees, didn't walk Monday since we are getting ready to move. We walk late when it gets down to around 95. We have also been going to the lake a couple of times a week and excercising in the water instead of walking.
A combo bug spray/sunblock that doesn't leave you smelling like bug spray is what I am after! Also one that doesn't cost a king's ransom for a little tiny 10 oz bottle! It's crazy how much sunblock is!
I've been using the quick dry mosquito spray and we really like it. My kids get eaten alive the minute we go outside, and they HATE insect repellant because of the sticky feeling. They actually don't mind this one.
Virginia, I'm off to find some mosquito repellant today. I am in an apartment with the washer/dryer out in the patio storage and everytime I open the door there are skeeters everywhere! I saw some inside the washer today. I'm fed up! They say rosemary oil will do it, so I'm going to find some and some netting if possible.
LChoice, I hate summer too! I am much more a fall/winter girl myself! I hate the bugs also, I always end up with a delightful (NOT) pattern of bites all over my legs, which of course look charming with shorts! I just don't do heat well, you know? I get grumpy, irritated and feel run down to the point that no one wants to be around me and I don't want to do a thing!
Looking forward to September that's for sure! LOL!
You're not weird, Lori, I feel the same way! Yesterday I heard a telltale beating against the window but my shades were drawn. I wondered aloud, "What's that? Could it be?" Yes, it was RAIN! I was ecstatic. We don't seem to get much rain. Well I was ecstatic until my electricity went out from the storm, LOL. It came back quickly, though. That's the only caveat I guess; our electricity will go out sometimes at the hint of an electrical storm and sometimes stay off for hours. But I love rain and storms anyway. Too much of it, no, but when you are in a hot sunny climate all the time, some clouds and a breeze make it nice to take walks outside and not feel like you need a respirator.
I'm no fan of summer, seeing as it can be pure misery down here. For me, it's not the heat, it's the humidity. And I do hate bugs; the more dry it is, the more it drives those little critters into my house looking for water.
Needless to say, my cat gets plenty of hunting in during the summer, despite being an indoor cat!
Still, being able to enjoy having my windows open most of the time from late autumn until mid-spring makes the heat bearable!
I need the sun, but I love rainy days and even more a thundering, lightning, pounding rain at night, love to sleep when it is like that. We have talked about the negatives, how about some positives. I put an intensive conditioning treatment on my hair when I am going to the pool or lake and a couple of times a week on my daily walks. The heat is then working for me by helping my hair soak up the conditioner. I have done this quite a few times now and it has made a big difference in my hair.
Is it possible to have "Seasonal Affected Disorder" when it's TOO SUNNY? Because that's how I feel in the summer. Too many sunny days, and I am just longing for rain and fog. Am I weird?
The older I get the harder it is to deal with the heat and humidity. It seems the higher the humidity the worse I feel, I actually get nauseas. I usually drink ginger or mint tea for it and eat crackers, it can be difficult to enjoy time outside though.
