Yes, it's funny how trusting we are. They use a word like that and we automatically think we're protected.

Wow that is really interesting. I thought I was using things that were safer and would not bother my allergies. And to think the makeup could be making them worse.

I thought they had some kind of standard too. I guess you can never be too careful with products you are putting on your face.

I had no idea that there were no standards for using "hypoallergenic"! You learn something new every day!

The term hypo-allergenice is subjective at best. "There are no federal standards or definitions that govern the use of the term hypoallergenic. The phrase "hypoallergenic" has no medical, legal or jewelry industry accepted definition when it comes to jewelry. A diminished ability to cause an allergy is the 'understood' definition."There will always be people who are sensitive to even one ingredient in any product. -- Edited by Host_DonnaA at 12/06/2008 8:15 AM PST

My sister is allergic to a couple of the big name mineral makeups! If she gets the least bit warm while wearing it, her face starts itching!

I wonder about this with the mineral make-up. Just because it came from minerals many could still be allergic to the minerals. How do you know what brands don't have anything extra in them?

How do you know if a makeup product you buy is really hypoallergenic?  I see many products labled this way but how can you be assured they really are?  I have a sister who suffers from varying degrees of contact dermatitis, so she has to be careful when buying makeup.  Any tips on what to look for in a product?
