The reason some people think that lip gloss causes cancer is because the gloss actually intensifies the rays of the sun. You should always use a lip balm with an SPF in it. In this case, lipstick can actually protect your lips!
-- "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
I've purchased several brands of lip glosses with an SPF usually with an SPF of 25 or less. They seem to be easier to find than they used to be.
I have a horrible time keeping up with any lipstick or lip gloss. When I need one, I can never find one. When I don't, of course, I find six, usually partially melted.
You know, I've been wearing lip gloss in varying forms since I was around 6 years old, and I am fine. My daughters have worn it, my friends wear it, and no one has had any problems. I believe in being informed and protecting yourself, but personally I have a hard time believing that something time honored like lip gloss can cause cancer. That's just me though!

I wear flip flops almost all year. I just love them and like to have cool feet. I guess I need to be putting sunscreen on them to keep them protected too.
Wow the article really is alarmist with the introduction. Then they say if you wear gloss with SPF, you're ok. So it isn't technically the gloss that is causing cancer, it is more contributing to it through the way light hits it. I thought at first it was the gloss itself, like a chemical in it. I love lipgloss so I'll be sure to make mine SPF!
I can see where the shinyness of it could cause the problems. It is kinda like wearing a sun product designed to cause you to get more effects from the sun, but with no protection.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has heard about this, and if anyone has any suggestions for good glosses with an SPF? I haven't really seen any except chapstick type things.
